With a talented and qualified coaching staff now firmly in place, the
Dodgers focus has shifted to putting a quality product on the field.  As
such, we are happy to announce DH Ken Calway as the first signing of
2008, returning to the team for a record seventh
season.  Ken has been a fixture on the Dodgers
roster since day one as one of the team’s first
signings and remains the only player to play in
each season since the Dodgers inception in 2002,
recording his 200th game on May 29, 2007.  In his
six year Dodger career, Ken has amassed many
accomplishments.  He holds all-time records for
most games played, hits, doubles, homeruns, walks,
RBI, was named a first team all-star DH in 2006
and was the first Oshawa Dodger to receive an IBL
Player of the Week award.   Despite not having his best season
statistically in 2007, Ken continued to lead the team in doubles, total
bases, RBI and was second in team hits next to IBL all-star Steve
Lewis.  In signing Ken, not only do the Dodgers get a dedicated and
talented player on the field but a team role model and leader in the
dressing room.  Ken has gained a reputation for being one of the
classiest and most respected individuals in the Intercounty Baseball
League.  He has acquired a following of supporters in each of the cities
the Dodgers visit, not only for his tremendous skill level but genuine
friendliness and kindness towards fans.

Ken’s loyalty to the Dodgers organization has never been more
prominent than this off season.  Knowing the team was in desperate
need of off field help, he stepped forward not only putting his name
forth for a position on the Dodgers board of directors but recruiting
two of his friends to get involved as well.  His commitment to the
Dodgers is unparalleled and with his knowledge and understanding of
Intercounty Baseball, having played with the Dodgers and prior to that
the Toronto Maple Leafs, he will  be of great benefit to the younger,
inexperienced players new to the team and league.

“We are ecstatic that Ken has chosen to return to the Dodgers in 2008,”
says Oshawa Dodgers Owner Lori May.  “Ken has always been and
remains our franchise player and exemplifies all the qualities we look for
in individuals joining our organization.  With Ken you get it all,
incredible talent, positive attitude, perseverance, unmatched dedication
and the desire to win.  We look forward to working with Ken this
season both as a player and in the boardroom and will hopefully be able
to put all the pieces in place to reward him with an Intercounty
Championship.”
