The Brantford Red Sox defeated the Barrie Baycats 3-2 on September 1st in dramatic fashion with a two-out, 10th inning single by Hyung Cho to repeat as Intercounty Baseball League champions and winners of the Jack and Lynne Dominico Trophy. It was Brantford’s 3rd championship in the last four years.
The extra-inning game was the 3rd game in the series to go past 9. The series opener went 11 innings and the third game went a playoff record tying 20 innings.
Mike Meyers of Brantford and Barrie left-hander Brad Bissell hooked up in a pitchers’ duel. Bissell took the loss allowing only 8 hits and going the distance. He struckout 2 and walked only 2 including one intentionally. Meyers went 8 1/3 innings, allowing 9 hits and both Barrie runs. He struckout 2 and walked one before being relieved by Strecker in the 9th inning. Strecker picked up the win, pitching 1 2/3 innings, giving up 3 hits and was awarded the Max Roseman Memorial Trophy as playoff MVP for his 3-0 record and 5 saves in the playoffs. He made 11 appearances, pitching 18 innings and allowing only one earned run for a 0.50 ERA.
