Long Ball Leads Leafs to Victory in Game One
Paul Spoljaric pitched six shutout innings and Jeremy Walker hammered
a home run that drove in three runs as the Toronto Maple Leafs posted
an 11-0 win over the Oshawa Dodgers in the opening game of the
Intercounty Baseball League’s best of seven quarterfinal here tonight
(Wednesday) in Christie Pits.
Spoljaric struck out eight batters while allowing four hits and a walk as the
Leafs blew the game open with seven runs in the fifth inning. Oshawa
starter Scott Robinson took the loss, allowing eight runs on six hits over
four innings. He walked three.
Matt Logan, Jang Wong Lee and Rob Gillis also hit homers for the Leafs.
Gillis had three hits in all and two RBIs. Walker also had two hits and
three RBIs with Logan adding two hits. Brad McConnachie and Steve
Lewis had two hits each of the six by the Dodgers.
