Dodgers Win Extra InningThriller
Oshawa Dodgers, on the strength of Steve Lewis’ two-run single in the
bottom of the 10th inning, edged the Toronto Maple Leafs 8-7 and evened
the best of seven quarterfinal Intercounty Baseball League series at one
game apiece at Kinsmen Stadium Friday night.
Winning pitcher, Greg Byron came on in relief in the 10th inning and
limited Toronto to one earned run on two hits while striking out one batter.
For Toronto, the losing pitcher was Mark James. He pitched two-thirds of
an inning in the fateful 10th giving up two earned runs on one hit and three
Joe Colameco led the Leafs at the plate with a single, two doubles a home
run, and three RBIs. Matt Logan added two hits including a home run and
three RBIs, and Danny Gibbons contributed a solo home run in the ninth to
tie the score at 7-7.
For Oshawa, Lewis led the way with three hits and two RBIs including the
game winning RBI. Brad McConnachie had two hits and one RBI with Ken
Calway and Brent Tamane adding one hit and two RBIs each.
