Dodgers Playoff Run Comes to an End

The London Majors are off to the Intercounty Baseball League finals
after scoring a thrilling 6-5 win over the Oshawa Dodgers in 10 innings
Friday night at Labatt Park in London.

Vince Burke drove home Jess Bechard with the winning run in the bottom
of the 10th inning to complete a late rally for the Majors, sending them to
the IBL finals against either Guelph or Brantford.

London trailed 5-3 heading to the bottom of the ninth inning, but scored
twice on a sacrifice fly by Rudy Vallejos and a run-scoring single by Kyle
Piwowarczyk to force extra innings.

The Majors had 14 hits in the game, including two each by Vallejos,
Burke, Piwowarczyk, Bechard and Toshi Sasha, as they finally subdued
the upstart Dodgers, who finished sixth in the IBL regular season
standings, 10 games behind the first place Majors.

London starter Pierre Miville-Deschenes went nine innings, allowing five
runs – four earned – on nine hits with 10 strikeouts and three walks.
Reliever Mike Mitro struck out the side in the top of the 10th to get credit
for the win.

Reliever Scott Kelly was the loser for the Dodgers, allowing three runs
on six hits over 2 2/3 innings, striking out one. Young sensation Evan
Grills went seven innings, allowing three runs on eight hits with two
strikeouts and two walks, leaving the game with a 4-3 lead.

Ken Calway had two hits and drove in a run for Oshawa, while Jordan
Castaldo also had a pair of hits.
