Baycats Clinch Pennant in Rain-Shortened Win
Over Dodgers

The Barrie Baycats clinched the 2009 Intercounty Baseball League
pennant on Saturday, downing the Oshawa Dodgers 5-3 in a rain
shortened game, one of two games played in the IBL on Saturday.

Jordan Lundberg had four hits for the Baycats, who had just six hits
in the game, as Barrie improved to 26-8, clinching first place. The
Dodgers become the first IBL team to complete their season at 17-
19, finishing sixth.

Lundberg’s big day included a double and a triple and three RBI.
Ryan Spataro added a run-scoring double to drive in the winning
run and Matt Logan’s sacrifice fly accounted for Barrie’s other run.

Adam Hawes got the win for the Baycats, going five innings. He
allowed one run on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks,
while Doug Dimma got the save, allowing two runs – one earned –
on four hits with a strikeout and two walks in 1 1/3 innings.

Nick Purdy, the third of three Oshawa pitchers, was the loser. He
went two innings, allowing two runs on three hits with two strikeouts
and four walks.

Jordan Castaldo had three hits, including a double, and Sean
Travers and Marcus Knecht both had two hits and a walk for
Oshawa. Travers, Tyler Patzalek and Adam Morton drove in the
Dodger runs.
