Dodgers Down 2-0 In Round One Playoff Series
In Oshawa, Mel Melehes pitched six strong innings as the Guelph
Royals took a 2-0 series lead on the Oshawa Dodgers with a 7-4
Melehes allowed two runs on two hits with seven strikeouts as the
Royals jumped to a 6-0 lead by the fourth inning before coasting to
the win. Jamie Pogue struck out the side in the ninth to complete the
four-hitter, with Game 3 in the series Monday night in Guelph.
Andrew Karkoulas had three hits for the Royals, who had 12 hits in
the game. Pogue also drove in a pair of runs for the winners, while
Jeremy Ware and Geoff McCallum both added two hits for Guelph.
Oshawa starter Greg Byron was the loser. He went five innings,
allowing six runs – five earned – on eight hits, striking out one and
Rickey Thomas had two hits for the Dodgers, while Peter Bako
added a solo home run in the loss.
